ARTS AND MINDS – Open Studios
At St Paul’s Centre, St Paul’s Church, Hills Road, Cambridge
The exhibition took place during the 2nd and 3rd weekends of Cambridge Open Studios . Thanks to Peter Nixon for his lovely photographs
This year, as part of Cambridge Open Studios, a newly formed group, supported by Arts and Minds and funded by Awards for All, took part in a group show in the Church itself. The six artists were Nmandi Monnormon, Phil Webb, Rowena Rothery, Cathleen Polet, Yvette Wilkie and Andy McDonald. Between them they created a wide variety of work using mixed media, ceramics, photography, jewellery, etching and encaustic work. The exhibition was an exciting and inspiring one. As one of the artist’s Phil Webb says “I see my art as a way of leaving my fingerprint on this world.” Come and make up your own mind! The exhibition opening was attended by at least 50 people, and the artists sold some of their pieces over the two weekends, which was also well-attended.
As part of their preparation for the Open Studios and for a further exhibition at the Fitzwilliam Museum during the Festival of Ideas in October 08, the group attended a series of talks with Gill Hart, education officer at the Fitzwilliam Museum, looking at some of the artefacts and art-works in the museum. One of the aims of the talks is to create some new pieces that reflect and that are inspired by the museum’s collection and now that the Open Studios exhibition is over, the group are getting ready for their next show. They are hoping to stay together as a group and to exhibit widely throughout Cambridge. For further information, please contact Kay Goodridge at Arts and Minds: kay.goodridge@artsandminds.org.uk
