PHOENIX CENTRE – Textiles and Photography

Arts and Minds organised a series of twelve art workshops at the Phoenix Centre, a specialist centre for young people with eating disorders who live in the Eastern Region during the school summer holidays this year (2007).

Talented textile artist, Nichola Holt worked with the young people to create a variety of clothing and textile‑based objects, including a large wall-hanging decorated with a collage of hands, lips and eyes and decorated with sequins and glitter, cushion-covers, ballet tutus, a decorated hand-bag, a fake fur leopard skin bikini, a teddy bear and several tee‑shirts. Some of the young people opted for making several objects over the period of time, and others spent a lot of time perfecting one or two items.
