Larkfields Centre, Ely

“Expressions” – a drama project and poetry archive with Tom Marty, from Public Arena (see collaborations)

In September and October 2007, Tom Marty facilitated a project at the Larkfields Centre in Ely, a resource centre for adults with learning disabilities. With the help and support of the carers at the Centre, and funded by ADEC, Larkfields Centre and Arts and Minds, he worked for 8 weeks with poetry and drama with many of the Centre's clients. People in the group had the opportunity to talk about various aspects of their lives and to work these observations into a drama performance and a series of poems. Below you can read a couple of the poems that came out of the sessions:

THERESA WENT WALKING

Theresa went walking round the room today She couldn't sit still and had to stand up Theresa went walking round the room today Trying to tidy away all the spare chairs Theresa went walking round the room today Whilst we were all chatting about our favourite puddings Theresa went walking round the room today And said that she wanted to show Tom all the work she had done Theresa went walking round the room today Showing Tom and the class all the work she had done Theresa went walking round the room today But the class really knew it was all their work too Theresa went walking round the room today And Tom was impressed with all the Class's work Theresa went walking round the room today And the Class celebrated with her with joy in their heart.
