Beat the Blues January Event
The third Monday “Blue Monday” in January is reputed to be one of the most depressing days of the year and this year, Arts and Minds decided to organise an event that would lift people’s spirits.
We decided to stage an event with singing, story-telling, poetry and dancing – to have a party where all present could take part, have fun and ‘beat their blues’.
The event was held at St Raphael’s Club in Chesterton in association with CAM-Mind. Mick Hilbury led the dancing which included the rumba, the hokey cokey and the conga. Nigel Preston-Jones told stories and sketches and recited the poem Albert and the Lion. The Michaelhouse Chorale sang a number of pieces including a version of the Lord’s Prayer arranged by one of their members, and the evening concluded with the Chorale leading everyone singing old favourites including Somewhere Over the Rainbow and A Nightingale Sang in Berkley Square.
